Mrs. Peay's Kindergarten Adventures : 2018

The 100th day of school is so much fun for you and your students to celebrate working hard for 100 days!! But let me tell you; this day seemed to be the busiest and fastest of the year so far. We stayed so busy doing what felt like 100 activities, that time flew by. I want to share with you a few activities that we did in the classroom that you should do in yours, as well as things to keep in mind when planning for the day.

To start the day, we did Morning Meeting activities that were geared to 100. For sharing time, they shared what they would do if they were 100 years old. One of my favorite answered was to pet a cat all day long! For the activity, we played the game where each student goes in order counting by tens. When a student said 100, they were out. It really engaged all of the students and helped them practice counting to 100 by 10's. Of course, we had to change our place value chart to 100, and we really got to talk about the 100's block.

Some of my students did an at home project where they had to count out 100 items. I allowed them to share before the day got super busy. Below are a few examples of what students brought in.

We then completed our 100 Day of School Fruit Loop necklace. I had the students complete a 100's chart by making a pattern. They then had to put the Fruit Loops on the hundreds chart to go with the pattern. After, they were then able to get their string. A few heads up. This activity takes a long time; I had some students that took around 2 hours to complete. I know some teachers that have done this as a center activity, but I prefer to do it whole group. If you decide to do this activty, make sure that the string is ready for the students. In the past, I didn't prepare for the strings to fray. I also had students dropping the necklaces, and Fruit Loops would go everywhere. Make sure that you loop a Fruit Loop at the end of the string. On the opposite end, put a piece of tape for the students to tread the Fruit Loops.

After the students were finished, I gave them several 100 Day activities. A few of their favorites were the 100 cup stack and putting together a puzzle with 100 pieces. They also enjoyed stamping, but the activity ended up being a tad messy. Below are some other activities that we did, as well as pictures from our day.
